When we can consciously receive "impressions" (Gurdjieff's third food for the Soul), one part of the energy of impressions goes into servicing the bodily infrastructure, particularly the nervous system, by electrochemical (molecular) processes. The other part goes into servicing the infrastructure of the Soul by the electromagnetic properties ("light") of massless waveforms (non-molecular).
Humans are now immersed in an "artificial-electromagnetic-sphere", that great ocean of radiant energy perpetually being fed by the "extraction" of electricity that powers all electronic devices and digital interactions. We either learn to swim in this digital energetic field that can nourish the Soul and move towards liberation, or drown in it, consumed and eaten by it, and be destroyed.
The energy of attention (how we activate conscious reception of impressions) is associated with the "Will". When the attention is able to consciously connect to the organic sensations of the body, it helps to sustain the "container" of the middle part of the Soul - that is, a new vehicle, a new body forms from vital perceptions.
Any human interaction with the digital world produces an intermixing of energies. If those people involved in the digital world are able to strengthen their attention and connect to their inner container, the energies of the digital world can "feed" the development of that container - the container of conscious sensations, our vital perceptions. If the quality of "free" attention and strength of that container are not sufficient, not integral enough, then the digital energies will inevitably "suck" them away, gobbling up any remnant of vitality, like a Black Hole eating everything in its path.
The intermixing of digital energies with life energies is a two edged sword, it can either destroy the inner container or help its growth and integrity. The secret to the energies of the digital world being "fuel" for Soul growth, is developing a quality of attention that is strong enough to sustain a connection, a relationship with all of the perceptual qualities emanating from the purity of subconsciousness, that is, what we call the "sensations of the body".
The real hope as we move into the increasingly overwhelming digital world, the worlds of the internet and its associated devices, is the potential to use this world in constructing another, the world of the Soul. For that, I need a completely different attitude to the body and a completely different relationship to the digital environment.
If the spiritual work of using the digital world to nourish Soul formation can be sustained, new possibilities emerge that respond, directly, to the next evolution of our species - that is, seeing the evolving digital infrastructure (molecular world) as a global nervous system that can support the appropriate distribution of non-molecular (light) inner energies that are mediated by Soul forming humans.
